Deputy Director of the School Ms. Angelique Antonova was invited by Director of the UN Information Centre in Moscow Mr. Alexander Gorelik to participate in the ceremony devoted to the United Nations Day and the 60th Anniversary of the UN Presence in Russia, which took place in the Tsereteli Art Gallery in Moscow on 24 October 2008. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mr. Sergey Lavrov and UN Resident Coordinator and UN Development Programme Resident Representative Mr. Marco Borsotti addressed the audience with their welcoming speeches where they stressed the importance of the UN in the system of international relations as “an indispensable global forum, a key element of the international system based on collective principles and a rule of law”. In conclusion Mr. Lavrov stated with confidence that “the UN presence in Russia will remain active and relevant and will help unite our efforts in tackling key issues of our time”.
This day gained special attention at the School. Irina Alexeeva, Director of the School, opened a meeting, stressing in her statement correlation of the training policy of the School with the basic UN principles. There was a discussion on the role and high responsibility of an interpreter/ translator in international organizations, especially in the atmosphere of global instability. The students of the School expressed their gratitude to the UN Secretariat and linguistic services for their assistance in the training process and assured that they would do their best to comply with the international standards of highly qualified interpreters and translators, strengthen the role of Russian in the international organizations and contribute to the effectiveness of intergovernmental communication.

Заместитель директора Школы А.М. Антонова приняла участие в торжественной церемонии, посвященной празднованию Дня ООН и 60-летию присутствия ООН в России по приглашению директора Информационного центра ООН (г. Москва) А.С. Горелика.На мероприятии, которое проходило 24 октября в Москве в Галерее искусств Зураба Церетели, с приветственными речами выступили Министр иностранных дел С.В. Лавров и постоянный координатор ООН и постоянный Представитель ПРООН в Российской Федерации Марко Борсотти. Они отмечали важность ООН в системе международных отношений как «универсального всемирного форума, ключевого элемента всей международной системы, основанной на коллективных и правовых началах». В завершение г-н Лавров высказал уверенность, что «деятельность ООН в России будет и впредь оставаться активной и востребованной, помогать объединению наших усилий в решении ключевых проблем современности».
В Школе это событие тоже не прошло без внимания. Директор Школы И.С. Алексеева открыла торжественное собрание, подчеркнув в своем выступлении тесную связь стратегии обучения в Школе с основными принципами ООН. Говорили о роли и высокой ответственности переводчика в международных организациях, особенно в условиях нестабильности современного мира. Слушательницы Школы высказывали благодарность сотрудникам ООН за помощь в обучении и выражали готовность приложить все силы к тому, чтобы достойно представлять переводчиков России в международных организациях, укреплять роль русского языка в международных организациях и способствовать более высокой эффективности межправительственного диалога.
