Trainers and students of St. Petersburg School of Interpretation and Translation took part in the international conference on the theory, methodology and practice of interpretation and translation Fedorov readings held at St. Petersburg State University on October 23-25th, 2008.

X international conference on the theory, methodology and practice of interpretation and translation Fedorov readings named after one of the pillars of theory and practice of translation and interpretation in Russia Andrei V. Fedorov was held at St. Petersburg State University on October 23-25th, 2008. Director of the School Irina S. Alexeeva made a report on new guidelines trends in translation. The workshop for the methods of teaching interpretation and translation, where a trainer of the School and a simultaneous interpreter Ekaterina S. Shutova made a report on training interpreters, caused much interest. The workshops were attended by all students of the School, and by a guest of the School senior interpreter of the English booth at the European Commission Mr. Liam Long. Liam Long, Ekaterina Shutova and Irina Alexeeva actively participated in the round table “The job of interpreter and translator in the present-day Russia”. The discussion focused on the legal status of interpreter/translator, necessity to popularize the profession among general public, urgent need in professional tailored schools for graduates with higher education in the field of interpretation/translation. The participants also noted that it is necessary to join the efforts in the training of professional interpreters and translators, and institutions like St. Petersburg School of Interpretation and Translation should play a key role in it.

Сотрудники и слушатели Санкт-Петербургской высшей школы перевода приняли участие в международной конференции по теории, методике и практике перевода «Федоровские чтения» в СПбГУ, которая проходила 23-25 октября 2008 г.

X Международная конференция по переводоведению «Федоровские чтения», которая названа в честь патриарха теории и практики перевода в России Андрея Венедиктовича Федорова, проходила 23-25 октября в стенах факультета филологии и искусств СпбГУ . Доклад о новых ориентирах в письменном переводе сделала директор Школы И.С.Алексеева. Очень оживленно прошло заседание секции методики преподавания перевода, где с докладом, посвященным обучению устного переводчика, выступила Екатерина Сергеевна Шутова – преподаватель школы, переводчик-синхронист. В работе секций конференции принимали участие все слушатели Школы, а также гость Школы – старший переводчик английской кабины Комиссии Европейских сообществ Лиам Лонг. Лиам Лонг, Е.С.Шутова, И.С.Алексеева приняли также активное участие в Круглом столе «Профессия «переводчик» в современной России», где обсуждались правовой статус переводчика, необходимость пропаганды профессии в широких слоях населения, подчеркивалась насущная необходимость в профессиональных школах узкой специализации на базе завершенного высшего переводческого образования. Отмечалась необходимость консолидации усилий в формировании переводчиков-профессионалов, где важную роль должны играть такие учреждения, как Санкт-Петербургская высшая школа перевода.
