The Inauguration ceremony of St Petersburg School of Interpretation and Translation took place on October 6th, 2008 at Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia.

Among the participants of the ceremony there were: Rector of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia Gennady A. Bordovsky; Deputy Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the North-Western Federal District Valery N. Goloshchapov; Deputy Director of the All-European Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail N. Evdokimov; Deputy Director of the Department of the Secretariat of the Minister, Language Service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vadim N. Kondrashov; Director General of DG Interpretation of the EC Marco Benedetti; Head of DG Interpretation Unit C1 – Multilingualism and Interpreter Training Support Wolter Witteveen; Director of the UN Information Centre (Moscow) Alexander S. Gorelik; DGACM Training Coordination Officer and Secretary of IAMLADP Igor S. Shpiniov; Director of St Petersburg School of Interpretation and Translation Irina S. Alexeeva; Deputy Director of St Petersburg School of Interpretation and Translation Angelika M. Antonova, other guests and the press.

The participants cut a traditional red ribbon, congratulated the School on the beginning of the first academic year, wished the School every success and expressed confidence in its future great contribution to the training of professional interpreters and translators in Russia. They also spoke about the need to strenghten co-operation and about their readiness to ensure the School all-round support.

Reports about the event were broadcast by three TV channels, three broadcasting stations, print- and e-Media.

6 октября 2008 г. в Российском государственном педагогическом университете им. А.И. Герцена состоялась церемония открытия Санкт-Петербургской высшей школы перевода.

В торжественном мероприятии приняли участие: ректор РГПУ им. А.И. Герцена Геннадий Алексеевич Бордовский, помощник полномочного представителя Президента РФ в Северо-Западном федеральном округе Валерий Николаевич Голощапов, заместитель директора Департамента общеевропейского сотрудничества МИД России Михаил Николаевич Евдокимов, заместитель директора Департамента Секретариат Министра, Служба лингвистического обеспечения МИД России Вадим Николаевич Кондрашов, Генеральный директор Генерального директората устного перевода Комиссии Европейских сообществ (ГДУ КЕС) Марко Бенедетти, директор отделения по поддержке многоязычия и обучения устному переводу ГДУ КЕС Волтер Виттевин, директор Информационного центра ООН (Москва) Александр Семенович Горелик, координатор программ профессиональной подготовки Департамента ООН по делам Генеральной Ассамблеи и конференционному управлению и Секретарь ИАМЛАДП, отвечающий за контакты Департамента с вузами по вопросам подготовки переводчиков, Игорь Станиславович Шпинев, директор Санкт-Петербургской высшей школы перевода Ирина Сергеевна Алексеева, заместитель директора Санкт-Петербургской высшей школы перевода Анжелика Михайловна Антонова, другие гости и пресса.

Участники мероприятия перерезали традиционную красную ленточку и поздравили Школу с началом первого учебного года, пожелали больших успехов и выразили уверенность в том, что она внесет большой вклад в подготовку профессиональных переводчиков в России. Говорили также о необходимости расширять сотрудничество и о готовности оказывать Школе всестороннюю поддержку.

Мероприятие освещалось на трех телевизионных каналах, «Радио России», «Радио Балтика», Радио «Эхо Москвы в Санкт-Петербурге», в печатных и электронных СМИ.
